If you've ever wanted to explore macro photography but don't want to shell out the $$$ sometimes involved in purchasing a true macro lens, I definitely recommend giving macro filters a try. They are filters that screw onto the front of your lens (they can work with pretty much any of the pre-existing lenses you may already have) and can save a bundle when starting out exploring this "little world" of photography. When purchasing them, make sure to get the right size for your lens. You'll want to get the size that fits the DIAMETER of your lens (this is NOT the same as the focal length of your lens. One is the "length" the other is the "width" and as any man, or woman for that matter, will tell you, these are definitely not the same thing ;) The diameter of your lens is marked on it as a number that follows a little symbol that looks like a crossed out zero.
Sometimes, macro photography can reveal a whole new world (now, don't go start singing Aladdin theme songs on me...) that you never thought possible. In fact, remember that bouquet of flowers from my sweet little man last week? Well, under the macro filters they reveal themselves in a whole new light.
